SPELLING BEE CHAMP

This is SO not funny. Note the awkwardness of Evan O’Dorney. He doesn't get the joke cuz he's got Asperger Syndrome. It's a form of autism, High Functioning Autism (HFA). It is typically characterized by issues with social and communication skills. The worst part of this Jimmy Kimmel sketch is that the kids parents are in the audience yucking it up. PIGS!

Section of Wikipedia's definition of AS
Non-autistics are able to gather information about other people's cognitive and emotional states based on clues gleaned from the environment and other people's facial expression and body language, but, in this respect, people with AS are impaired; this is sometimes called mind-blindness.[23][24] Mind-blindness is also known as a lack of "theory of mind."[25] Without theory of mind, AS individuals lack the ability to recognize and understand the thoughts and feelings of others. Deprived of this insightful information, they are unable to interpret or understand the desires or intentions of others and thereby are unable to predict what to expect of others or what others may expect of them. This often leads to social awkwardness and inappropriate behavior.

Has it been confirmed that the kid has Asperger's syndrome? I've just seen a lot of talk about it on blogs here and there and it made me question why his parents were laughing so hard in the audience of Jimmy Kimmel, too. If they know their son doesn't understand what's happening, why would they put him in these situations? Especially with the news anchor the other day. Couldn't they have prepped her beforehand? She seriously looked very confused and now everyone seems to think that this kid is a smart-ass. I certainly did after watching the news clip! I'm not saying Evan should be defined by AS, but people might be more accepting if they understood his background. Does that make sense? Or maybe we should all just stop making fun of others.
